ROCKFORD, IL – “Mercyhealth has owned that property since I think 1998. So we knew it would just a matter of time that they would build on it,” says Keith Kelly.
With Mercyhealth’s new hospital just months away from opening, there’s an influx of new residents moving to the area.
New condos are going up in this neighborhood just east of Mercyhealth Sportscore Two in Loves Park.
“The addition of Mercyhealth Riverside Hospital building, construction in this area has had an increase. I have personally sold a doctor here, orthopedic surgeon, obviously this is going to work out great, we’re less than a mile from the hospital,” adds Kelly.
But, Kelly says construction companies aren’t just building around the new hospital.
“We’re building in Machesney, Roscoe, Rockton, there’s certainly more options than before with new construction. The last few years we’ve been coming out of the recession and I think with the addition of Mercy it really has helped,” says Keith Kelly.
Steven bois is the C-E-O of the Rockford area realtors. He says many people have put their homes up for sale hoping to attract some of the new mercy employees.
“People that have a higher priced home may feel they have a better market coming in with the professional transfers with the hospital,” says CEO of Rockford Area Realtors Steven J. Bois.
“We just had $300 million expansion at Woodward Governor and other types of things. I wouldn’t call it a perfect storm, but it’s a real positive direction this region is going in that we haven’t seen in a long time,” says Bois.
