The announcement was made Tuesday night at the Rockford Area Economic Development Council annual meeting.
Mercyhealth says new renovations include water remediation work, a modernized surgical prep and recovery area, a makeover of its ICU and Medical/Surgical units, and a newer, modernized look to the majority of the hospitals’ private rooms, nurses stations, hallways and more.
Improvements to protect the Hospital on its campus include water remediation efforts incorporating re-grading, creating more green space, and constructing a second, larger retention pond which will be located along Lawndale Avenue where the majority of the structures will be leveled.
Over the last few months, Mercyhealth worked with the tenants, to make this process as smooth as possible, helping with relocation, one-month free rent and financial assistance with moving expenses.
Mercyhealth says when the renovations are down, they’ll have invested more than $70 million in renovations on the Javon Bea Hospital-Rockton Avenue campus.
The phased renovation plan will not disrupt patient care and is planned to begin immediately.
