ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) — A Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputy received a life-saving award after doing just that.
Deputy Daniel Ferruzza was dispatched to a call where the patient was in and out consciousness. Upon arriving at the scene he grabbed the AED device and administered first aid.
The sheriff’s office has a partnership with Mercyhealth Hospital-Rockton Avenue where deputies are taught first aid for situations like this.
“It’s extremely important just for situations like this where it’s better to have something and not needed than to need something and not have it. The sheriff’s department does a good job giving us training and the tools we need to go out there and do our job,” said Deputy Ferruzza.
Deputy Ferruzza is also part of the 15 deputies who were honored for ten years of service at Winnebago County Sheriff’s office.
