WIFR: Mercyhealth Hosts Car Seat Safety Check Event

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) — One hospital is making sure our little ones stay safe while riding in our cars by hosting seat check Saturday.

NICU nurses and child life specialists at Mercyhealth Hospital have taken a four day training to be certified car seat technicians. Mercyhealth hosts seat check Saturday the second Saturday of every month. Anyone can register to stop by and get your child’s car seat checked to make sure it’s properly and safely installed.

“Get the seat, get it checked, make sure it’s going to work well in your car, and then as kids grow their needs are different so it’s nice to check when they’re transitioning. The new law starting in January is that kids should be rear facing until they are two,” said child life specialist at Mercyhealth Stacy Zell-Weavel.

Car seat techs say it’s important for parents to get car seats checked frequently to be able to learn more information about different types of car seats and to learn new installation techniques.
