Many of us have heard of therapy dogs but how about therapy horses? That’s the job of Luna the miniature horse who visits patients at a local nursing home.
Luna is a volunteer therapy horse from Mercyhealth at Home Hospice; patients at PA Peterson at the Citadel were able to pet, play and even snuggle up to the miniature horse. Mercyhealth recently expanded its therapy program to include even more offerings including massages, reflexology and aromatherapy all of which patients seem to respond to, especially Luna.
“A lot of times they just can’t believe that she’s in the building for one thing but, she stands there, they kiss her, they sing to her, they tell her what they did when they were children. So, it’s just, it just brings such joy to them, that is a wonderful thing,” said nurse Liz Fiorenza.
