Trauma is a serious, life- or limb-threatening injury caused by an automobile crash, gunshots, knife wounds, falls, battery or burns. Our trauma surgeons and staff use a variety of surgical and non-surgical procedures to treat traumatic injuries. They also resuscitate and stabilize the patient, and provide follow-up care.

Millions of traumatic injuries occur every year in the United States, and trauma surgeons must be ready take on any medical challenge. A trauma surgeon is specially trained to work on complex and various injuries and make quick decisions in the minutes and hours after a serious injury.

Mercyhealth has a full team of trauma surgeons and nurses, as well as a full complement of trauma staff, in its Level 1 and Level 2 trauma centers at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford and Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville, Wisconsin. Our trauma patients are routinely admitted for inpatient hospital care. We also accept patients from Level III and IV facilities.

Our trauma surgeons specialize in neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, ear, nose, and throat surgery, and plastic and reconstructive surgery, plus other areas of medical expertise.
