Since 2003, Mercyhealth has provided medical and dental care to uninsured children in the region through the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile. The Care Mobile is a 40-foot, 26,000 pound pediatric clinic on wheels that delivers medical and dental care to uninsured children across the region. The vehicle houses two patient examination rooms, a reception area, and a clinic area. A team of medical professionals travel on the Care Mobile, including a nurse practitioner. The Care Mobile visits several schools as well as various other sites in five counties in Illinois, including Boone, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson and Winnebago, and Rock County in Wisconsin.
Funding for the Care Mobile is provided by Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Mercyhealth RMH Auxiliary and the Mercyhealth Development Foundation. Since 2003, more than 8,645 children and their families have been served on the Care Mobile. More than $2.2 million in free care has been provided since 2003. More than 1,200 immunizations have been given on the Care Mobile since 2003.
The Care Mobile participates in numerous community events every year, including parades and festivals, to increase community awareness and educate children and families. In 2018, the Care Mobile celebrated the 15-year milestone of providing care to the children in our region.
