Mercyhealth’s Javon Bea Hospital–Riverside is designated as a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), a designation Mercyhealth has held since 2017.
It is the only Rockford hospital and one of only six Illinois hospitals designated as being capable of providing comprehensive trauma care to children who have suffered blunt trauma, penetrating wounds and head injuries in incidents such as crashes, falls or violent acts.
In addition to the Pediatric Trauma Center designation, our hospital is recognized as one of only 6 Pediatric Critical Care Centers in Illinois by the IDPH, which means we provide the highest level of specialized critical care to children in our 12-bed Pediatric Unit and 8-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Recognized as the region’s pediatric leader, Mercyhealth offers advanced pediatric physician specialists and surgeons in-house, 24 hours a day, to treat the most severe injuries in children.
On July 1, 2018, Mercyhealth became the only state-designated children’s hospital in northern Illinois. Mercyhealth earned this designation from the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services because of the wide range of children’s services we offer that meet their stringent standards.
