Traditional Chinese Medicine helps body heal itself
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is one of the oldest health care systems in the world at roughly 4,000 years old. It is meant to relieve pain and balance the system. TCM has five branches, with the most recognizable being acupuncture, which involves inserting very thin needles into special acupuncture points, but also includes:
- Herbology, which is the use of plants in healing and for medicinal reasons
- Moxabustion, which is use of heat through herbs
- Tui na, which is Chinese massage often used in conjunction with herbology, moxabuction, and acupuncture treatments
The goal of Traditional Chinese Medicine is to create a balanced system, therein creating optimal health. Each TCM treatment given is tailored specifically to the individual patient and his or her unique health circumstances. It is used not only to treat physical ailments (internal and external), but also emotional ailments such as stress and anxiety.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is simply allowing the body to heal itself by promoting its own healing abilities. It can be used as a stand-alone modality or in conjunction with any other treatment a patient may be undergoing.
