Breast Care: Digital Mammograms

We offer screening and diagnostic mammograms, certified by the MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act) to ensure high-quality mammography for early breast cancer detection. Because digital mammography is done using computer imaging, your physician can get a much clearer picture of your breast health by adjusting the screen’s light and dark areas.

The mammography screening itself proceeds the same way a traditional mammogram would. The mammographer places the patient’s breast between to plates to flatten and compress it so that all angles are visible to the machinery. The procedure takes about 20 minutes.

Digital mammography offers advantages over traditional film mammography:

  • Improved accuracy detects breast cancer better in women younger than 50, pre- and peri-menopausal women, and women with dense breasts. Not only will a doctor closely examine your mammogram results, but computer software can detect issues as well.
  • Digital images can move quickly between physicians to get you the answers and diagnoses you need for peace of mind.
  • Digital images are much easier to store.
  • Digital mammography produces about 25 percent  less radiation than tradition film mammography, making it a safer alternative. While more images of the breasts are taken, less space is imaged in each view.
