    Mercyhealth School of Sonography has defined non-academic standards or Technical Standards to which all applicants must comply in order to be ABLE to participate and complete our Sonography Program.

    They are instituted not only for your protection but the protection of the patients, they are as follows:

    *Applicants are evaluated on the same basis regardless of age, sex, race, religion, national origin, marital status or handicap.

    Technical requirements (not limited to):

    • Ability to bend and kneel
    • Full use of both arms, hands, and fingers
    • Ability to manipulate ultrasound equipment
    • Ability to hear Doppler used in pulse wave analysis
    • Ability to distinguish variations in colors used in color Doppler
    • Ability to stand and walk for lengthy periods of time
    • Ability to physically assist patients
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients and family members
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with staff and physicians

    If a student sonographer develops a health problem that will prevent them from adhering to the health standards policy, he/she must notify the program director. A student may continue in the program with written permission from their physician, and as long as he/she fulfill the responsibilities and objectives of this policy and objectives and of the program are met.
