ROCKFORD, Illinois—Mercyhealth is proud to announce that its clinical breast program in Rockford was recently granted a three-year, full accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), an elite branch of the American College of Surgeons.
Mercyhealth underwent a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance, during which the breast program demonstrated full compliance with all standards established by the NAPBC. Standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement. Through this NAPBC accreditation, Mercyhealth has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients a significant advantage in their battle against the full spectrum of breast diseases.
In 2021, the American Cancer Society (ACS) estimated there to be 281,550 newly diagnosed invasive breast cancer patients in the United States. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women.
“This accreditation is our promise to all breast patients in our community, that we have and will continuously strive to provide them with a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to address all their breast health needs,” said Arvind Mahatme, MD, MSHA, Board Certified Breast Surgical Oncologist at Mercyhealth.
Mercyhealth’s breast care team includes dedicated fellowship-trained physicians, as well as a team of skilled nurses, a physical therapist, genetic counselor and case manager, all of whom work in a coordinated fashion to provide our patients and their families with all facets of care in their time of need.
