Mercyhealth Appoints Chief Nursing Officer

JANESVILLE, Wisconsin- Mercyhealth is pleased to announce Kara Sankey has been named Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center-Janesville. Kara will continue her responsibilities as Mercyhealth’s director of case management, social services, and utilization management. As CNO, Kara will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing inpatient nursing practices. She will oversee operations for nursing departments at Mercyhealth’s Janesville Campus.

Kara has been an employee-partner for 14 years. During her time at Mercyhealth, Kara started her career as a surgical/pediatrics nurse for the inpatient unit and became the nurse educator. She transitioned to the case management department and worked as a nurse navigator. She became the manager and soon after, the director of case management, utilization management, and social services for Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center- Janesville, Mercyhealth Hospital and Medical Center-Harvard, and Mercyhealth Hosptial and Medical Center-Walworth in 2014. In 2017, she assumed system accountability for case management, social services and utilization review. She has chaired the research council and helped with the development of the observation unit at Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center-Janesville. She has also served as nursing director of inpatient rehabilitation unit and medical unit.

Kara has been a registered nurse for 12 years and holds a Master of Science in Nursing Degree from Saint Xavier University, Chicago Illinois, and is board certified as a clinical nurse leader.
