JANESVILLE, Wisconsin—Books-A-Million, 2500 Milton Ave., Janesville, is excited to host its third annual book and toy drive for residents of the House of Mercy Homeless Center. The drive will run through Sunday, December 13, 2020.
A wish list of requested books is available at Books-A-Million, located in the Janesville Mall. Promoting childhood literacy and family socialization are the goals of this annual event. This event is part of Books-A-Million’s Holiday Book and Toy Drive taking place at their stores across the country. The “Grow Your Heart 3 Sizes” campaign encourages customers visiting Books-A-Million stores to purchase children’s books and toys to be donated to local charities.
“Seeing our communities come together for those in need is a heartwarming experience we look forward to every year—especially this year,” said Melanie Smith, Vice President of Marketing at Books-A-Million. “To date, we’ve donated over $10,000,000 worth of books and toys to kids and families nationwide, and our hope is that these contributions help brighten holiday celebrations and family time as we wind down this year.”
The House of Mercy is a 25-bed homeless center that provides homeless families with short-term emergency shelter and access to housing, job placement and child care resources. Since opening in 1996, the Center has provided shelter and support to over 7,000 individuals, half of whom were children. Almost every
day, the Center’s 25-bed capacity is filled—but with the generous support of our community, the doors to the House of Mercy will continue to remain open, helping those in need. The donations received from our donors, community members and business corporations help the House of Mercy Homeless Center address the root causes of homelessness in our area.
