Gerald W. Greenfield, PhD

"I believe that empathy is a core element of therapeutic relationships, including between physicians and their patients. I often tell family medicine residents that my job is to encourage them to do the impossible: to listen empathically to patients, notwithstanding the severe time pressures of primary care medicine. Patients benefit when they succeed."
