Dr. Luellwitz is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Following graduation from Marquette University with a degree in electrical engineering, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. He served eight years as a systems engineer and acquisition program manager. He then founded a computer software development and consulting firm specializing in ophthalmological practice management. Working closely with eye care professionals, he was fascinated with patient care and the treatment of diseases of the eye, and decided to make ophthalmology his new career.

After completing his medical training, Dr. Luellwitz was in private practice in Rockford, IL. He joined Mercyhealth in 2005.

Dr. Luellwitz specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. He uses the latest diagnostic technology and performs numerous procedures and surgeries to treat all types of glaucoma. Treatments include, but are not limited to trabeculectomy, cataract removal combined with glaucoma surgery, laser treatments, and placement of glaucoma tube shunts.

To treat cataracts, Dr. Luellwitz uses state-of-the-art equipment and implants monofocal, presbyopic-correcting, and toric lens.

Dr. Luellwitz frequently speaks to eye care professionals regarding the treatment of glaucoma, both locally and nationally. He has also served as an investigator on after-market research studies involving medications used to treat glaucoma.

Dr. Luellwitz has also been involved in overseas mission work performing glaucoma surgery in Uganda.
