When you or a loved one faces a terminal illness, you want comfort, compassion and support from the medical community. That is the essence of hospice.
Mercyhealth Hospice is a non-profit hospice that is directly linked to a health system. This connection gives us the resources and knowledge to be able to provide our patients and their families with expert care that helps them live as well as possible, for as long as possible. It also allows patients who have a Mercyheath provider to continue to use the same trusted continuum of care.
With a dedicated staff of nurses, social workers, home health aids, volunteers and chaplains, Mercyhealth Hospice helps make end-of-life care easier. In fact, every member of the hospice team knows the special concerns of those facing a life-limiting illness and respects the patient’s wishes in all aspects of care. At the center of our hospice team are the patient and the patient’s family and loved ones. The patient’s needs, desires and comfort are central to all aspects of care. Our services are tailored to the individual’s needs and wishes.
From experience, we know our patients want to know how they will be cared for if they can no longer manage their symptoms at home. When patients have a symptom crisis, that is the time they would be admitted to their chosen Mercyhealth hospital. This type of care is usually around-the-clock and short term.
Beyond medical care, hospice patients are offered many beneficial and complementary services: therapeutic massage, Music for the Heart, We Honor Veterans®, Pet Peace of Mind® pet care, and visiting volunteers. The patient’s loved ones receive special assistance and care as well, including respite care, support groups and bereavement services.
