ROCKFORD, Illinois⎯ Excitement is building as plans are being finalized for the Mercyhealth 2017 Garden Gala to be held on Saturday, September 30, at 5:30 pm, at Giovanni’s Restaurant & Convention Center, 610 N. Bell School Road, in Rockford. Mercyhealth Development Foundation’s premier black tie fundraising event promises to deliver a spectacular evening of elegance and fun–all for a good cause.
Monies raised at the gala will support the rooftop garden at the new Mercyhealth Women’s and Children’s Hospital being built at I-90 and Riverside Boulevard in Rockford. Complementing the excellent, state-of-the-art care that will be delivered there, the garden will provide a calming and healing green space where pediatric patients and their families can escape the stress of illness or injury. Child life specialists and other health care professionals cite the need for young patients to have a sense of normalcy when they are hospitalized, and the garden will provide the opportunity for patients to play and relax as they normally would outside the hospital setting.
Gala festivities will take place throughout the Giovanni’s facility. Guests will be treated to beautiful and delicious food created by Chef Al Castrogiovanni and his crew; musical entertainment by violinist Martin Lopez during the social hour; and lively dancing to the sounds of Chicago favorite dance band 7th Heaven on the main stage. Other gala attractions include the return of the spectacular silent and wine auctions featuring one-of-a kind items and experiences, more than 100 bottles of wine from private cellars, a wine pull, and a raffle with fantastic prizes.
This year’s gala committee is co-chaired by John Dorsey, MD, and his wife, Sue Hessian. Dr. Dorsey serves as the Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs at Mercyhealth.
The public is invited to attend the gala. Tickets are $200 each and can be purchased online at MercyhealthGala.org or by calling the Mercyhealth Development Foundation at (815) 971-4141. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for area businesses and organizations by calling the Foundation office.
