WTVO: Loves Park Celebrates Arrival of New Ambulance Service, Training Came From Mercyhealth

LOVES PARK, Ill. (WTVO) – The Loves Park Fire Department hosted a ribbon cutting event Tuesday to celebrate the arrival of its first advanced life support ambulance.

“This basically completes us as a complete fire department,” said Mayor Greg Jury.

For the last 50 years, the department has relied on neighboring first responders for medical calls.

“Since this ambulance is dedicated to Love Park, the response time will be much faster,” said Loves Park Fire Assistant Chief Tim Conley. “And, since there are firefighter paramedics on the ambulance, they can be used in fire situations and medical situations. We can give drugs, do advanced airways, defibrilation, more life saving measures.”

Dr. Matthew Smetana, Associate EMS Director for Mercyhealth, said, “The paramedics and EMTs in Loves Park will be able to deal with anything, any condition that the patient needs pre-hospitally.”
