Treatments for Chromosomal Abnormalities

Cures do not exist for chromosomal abnormalities. Doctors can fix some of the problems that result from them, such as heart defects. This can improve quality of life.
Prenatal testing can help you cope with your pregnancy. It can also help you get ready for any problems your baby may have at birth. It can also offer the choice to end the pregnancy if a problem is found.
Most abnormalities are not treatable. Counseling can guide couples who carry abnormalities. The couple can decide whether to keep trying to have a child using their own eggs and sperm, try using donor eggs or donor sperm, adopt, or stay childless.
