Crystal Lake

Mercyhealth is committed to bringing health care close to home for the 120,000 residents in and around Crystal Lake. In June of last year, Mercyhealth received 6 to 1 approval from the State of Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board to build a 24/7 emergency room and associated hospital beds in Crystal Lake. We have already begun the construction process.

Unfortunately, a local judge recently overturned the State’s decision in an appeal filed by Centegra and Advocate.

Thousands of Crystal Lake residents signed a petition in support of our 24/7 emergency room and associated hospital beds, and we received overwhelming support from business and community leaders.

We are appealing the local judge’s decision and continue our quest to bring critical health care services to Crystal Lake. In an emergency, every minute counts. #MercyhealthCares.

About Mercyhealth Hospital and Medical Center–Crystal Lake

Mercyhealth received approval in June 2017 to build a small hospital and clinic at the corner of Route 31 and Three Oaks Road in Crystal Lake to provide a better continuation of care for our current patients in McHenry County.

Our hospital and clinic will bring together our five existing primary and specialty care physician practices into one building. This will provide our patients with enhanced coordination of care and easy access to our physicians, lab, radiology and pharmacy services.

24/7 emergency services

Crystal Lake does not have an emergency department. The hospital will include a 24/7 emergency room, offering access to immediate emergency care for those who have limited access to transportation, especially Medicaid, charity care and elderly patients.

Small hospital

Our small, 13-bed hospital will offer private inpatient and intensive care beds, two operating rooms, and ancillary services.

Multi-specialty clinic

We will consolidate our existing Mercyhealth Crystal Lake-area primary and specialty care physician practices (Crystal Lake South, East, OB/GYN, Chiropractic/Rehabilitation and Northwest Women’s Group), bringing greater convenience and coordination of care to our patients.

Economic growth

This project will create hundreds of new jobs:

  • 500+ jobs in construction and trade
  • 150 permanent health care jobs, including physician providers, nursing, dietary, housekeeping and professional support services

For every health care job created, another .9 are created in the community, equaling 135 additional jobs in the community
